The jewel of Hillsborough County and the home to gorgeous beaches, world-class restaurants, fine shopping and major league sports teams and stadiums. Home to more than 340,000 residents, Tampa is just outside of the top 50 for the largest cities in the United States. It is at the center of the “Tampa Bay” area that is home to more than 2.7 million people. Despite its large population, Tampa has managed to stay a beautiful place to live or visit. It is a top 10 city when it comes to outdoor activities and cleanliness. It was also called one of the best cities in America for 20-somethings.

Tampa was a major producer of cigars in the 1920’s and that industry has seen a re-birth as of late but it was the addition of MacDill Air Force Base in 1941 that really led to Tampa’s growth as a city. What was once a city known just for phosphate and cigars, Tampa is now one of the largest media markets in the southeast and is home to the University of Tampa, the University of South Florida (USF) and Stetson University College of Law among others.

Serviced by I-4, I-75 and I-275, Tampa has become a tourist destination. While Busch Gardens and the Lowry Park Zoo are year-round staples for tourists, the Tampa area also has become known for its yearly and other special events. In 2009 the city of Tampa hosted its fourth Super Bowl and every year the Gasparilla Pirate Festival is held downtown. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Raymond James Stadium are located in Tampa as is the headquarters of the New York Yankees.

Tampa is surrounded by numerous cities and beautiful neighborhoods. Clearwater and Largo are two of the most notable to the west. Pinellas is southwest and is home to St. Petersburg, St. Pete Beach and Pinellas Park. Bradenton, Apollo Beach, Ruskin and Sun City Center are located to the south of Tampa and Brandon, Valrico, Plant City and Lakeland are to the east. There are quite a few large communities located to the northeast like Temple Terrace, Wesley Chapel, Dade City and Zephyrhills. North of Tampa is Lutz, Carrollwood, Land O’ Lakes and Northdale. On the northwest side is Oldsmar, Tarpon Springs, New Port Richey and Palm Harbor.
